Derek is Chief Underwriting and Risk Officer for CBRE Real Estate Investments. In that capacity, he acts as Chair of the United States and European Investment Committees for Trammell Crow Company, the real estate development subsidiary of CBRE Group, Inc.
Derek began his career in 1981 as an attorney (and later partner) with Vinson & Elkins LLP where he practiced corporate finance and securities law. He joined Trammell Crow Company (then independent of CBRE) as its General Counsel shortly after acting as lead outside counsel in connection with the company’s 1997 initial public offering. He then served as Chief Financial Officer of Trammell Crow Company from 2000 through 2006, when the company was sold to CBRE. In addition, from 2011 through 2013, Derek held various roles for CBRE Investment Management, the independently operated real estate investment management affiliate of CBRE, including acting as its interim Chief Financial Officer.
Derek is a graduate of University of Kansas where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He earned a Juris Doctor and a Master of Business Administration from the University of California (Berkeley) School of Law and Graduate School of Business. Derek is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and the State Bar of Texas (inactive), and he serves on the boards of Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company and the North Texas Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors.
